L'aggettivo italiano interessato può essere tradotto in molti modi, a seconda del contesto in cui viene usato. La traduzione letterale “interested” è corretta solo in presenza di un interesse attivo per qualcosa: Sono interessato alla letteratura medievale, I'm interested in medieval literature. Quando si parla di un evento che ha effetti negativi su qualcuno o qualcosa, si usa “affected”: le zone interessate dall'alluvione, the areas affected by the floods. Infine, “concerned” indica persone o cose associate a una determinata circostanza: Stiamo risarcendo le spese di viaggio. Gli interessati devono completare la domanda entro la fine del mese, we're refunding travel expenses. Those concerned must complete their application by the end of the month.
